Crypto Tax Software for the UK: HMRC Rules and Prices Compared

We may earn a commission from some links. It doesn’t affect our rankings.

Short answer

For UK filers, crypto tax software needs to apply HMRC's same-day rule, 30-day rule and section 104 pool, and report in pounds sterling. CoinLedger, Koinly, CoinTracker and Summ all say they support UK share pooling. Published entry prices: CoinLedger and Koinly $49 per tax year, CoinTracker $59 a year, and Summ £99 a year for 1,000 transactions, covering all tax years.

What UK crypto tax software has to do

  • Match disposals in HMRC’s order: same day, then the next 30 days (the “bed and breakfast” rule), then the section 104 pool.
  • Treat swaps, spending and most gifts as disposals, not only sales to pounds.
  • Report in pounds sterling for the cryptoasset section of Self Assessment (from 2024 to 2025 returns).
  • Keep pooled-cost records before and after each disposal, which HMRC can ask to see.

Who each fits, based on published features and pricing

This is a reading of published features and prices, not a tested recommendation. None of these tools was tested hands-on for this page.

  • CoinLedger: fits one-year filers with up to about 1,000 transactions who want a one-time payment and an HMRC-labelled summary.
  • Koinly: fits people who want to preview up to 10,000 transactions free, pay once per tax year, or pay in crypto.
  • CoinTracker: fits people catching up on several years, since a yearly plan covers past years’ reports.
  • Summ: fits people who want GBP pricing and named SA100/SA108 outputs, with all tax years under one subscription.

Whichever you try, import your full history in the free tier. Then check that a rebuy within 30 days is matched to the earlier sale.

Frequently asked questions

Which UK crypto tax software is best?

This page doesn't rank them, because none was tested hands-on. It sets out published prices and HMRC features so you can match them to your transaction count, the number of years you need and how you want to pay.

What HMRC rules must the software apply?

HMRC's Cryptoassets Manual matches disposals with same-day acquisitions first, then acquisitions in the next 30 days, then the section 104 pool. Gains are reported in pounds sterling.

Which tools publish GBP prices?

Summ's UK pricing page shows GBP: £99 for Hobbyist (1,000 transactions) and £249 for Investor (10,000). CoinLedger, Koinly and CoinTracker pricing pages showed USD when checked.

Which is cheapest for catching up several years?

CoinTracker and Summ sell yearly plans that cover past years' reports. CoinLedger and Koinly sell each tax year separately, so three years means three purchases.

Can I see my gains before paying?

Yes, with all four. Each lets you import transactions and preview gains free, and charges to download reports.

What is the UK CGT allowance?

£3,000, per GOV.UK. Gains above it are taxed at 18% or 24% for gains from 6 April 2026, depending on your Income Tax band.
