How the billing models differ

  • Per tax year (CoinLedger, Koinly): you buy a report for each year you file. Catching up three years at about 100 transactions each costs 3 × $49 = $147.
  • Annual subscription covering past years (CoinTracker, Summ): one yearly payment covers forms for earlier years too. CoinTracker counts only this year’s transactions against the limit. Summ applies its limit across all years.
  • Annual with auto-renewal (ZenLedger): tiers run on transaction count, and the plan renews yearly.
  • Software plus filing service (TokenTax): Basic and Premium are software tiers. VIP adds prepared returns from its in-house tax team.

Who each fits, based on published features and pricing

This is a reading of each vendor’s published plans and prices, not a tested recommendation. None of these tools has been tested hands-on for this page.

  • Koinly: fits people who want to preview a large history free (up to 10,000 transactions), pay once per year with no renewal, or pay in crypto (its FAQ lists BTC, ETH, DAI and USDC).
  • CoinTracker: fits people catching up on several past years, since one plan covers every past year’s forms. Also people with lots of staking rewards, which Prime and above don’t count.
  • Summ: fits multi-year filers with up to 1,000 transactions across all years, or very high-volume traders (Trader covers up to 100,000).
  • ZenLedger: fits people with 1,000 to 15,000 transactions who are comfortable with a yearly renewal.
  • TokenTax: fits people who want a firm to prepare the return as well as the software (VIP from $3,499).

Before you switch

Most of these tools let you import your full history free. Import into two of them, compare the transaction counts each shows, then pay for the cheaper tier. Counting rules differ. CoinLedger doesn’t count non-taxable self-transfers, CoinTracker counts only this year’s transactions and (from Prime) leaves out staking rewards, and Koinly says it groups related transactions and filters spam.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free CoinLedger alternative?

Not one that produces tax forms for free on its published pricing. Koinly, CoinTracker, Summ and ZenLedger all let you import transactions and preview gains for free, and charge when you want the reports. Koinly's free tier tracks up to 10,000 transactions.

Which alternative is cheapest for 100 transactions?

On 28 Oct 2026, Koinly, Summ, ZenLedger and TokenTax listed $49 for about 100 transactions, the same as CoinLedger. CoinTracker's Base plan was $59 a year for 100 transactions this year.

Which alternatives cover past tax years in one payment?

CoinTracker says one plan covers forms for every past year. Summ says its annual subscription covers all tax years back to 2013, with the transaction limit applied across all years. CoinLedger and Koinly sell each tax year separately.

Which ones auto-renew?

CoinTracker and Summ say plans renew yearly unless you cancel. ZenLedger's help centre says plans auto-renew yearly with an email 7 days before. Koinly and CoinLedger describe one-time purchases per tax year rather than subscriptions.

What are the refund terms?

Koinly: 7 days if no report generated. CoinTracker: 30 days if no tax forms downloaded. CoinLedger: 14 days, only for a verified software limitation and no download. ZenLedger: 14 days under its terms. Summ's cancellation policy stops renewal but doesn't describe a general refund window.

What if I have more than 10,000 transactions?

CoinLedger's help centre lists a $499 Unlimited tier for 10,000+. CoinTracker's Ultra is $499 for 10,000 this year and Ultra+ $999 for 25,000.
