Short answer

CoinLedger lists an Australia ATO MyTax Report among its country-specific forms and supports FIFO, LIFO and HIFO, which it says are used in Australia. Prices are in USD per tax year: free tracking and preview, then $49 for 100 transactions, $99 for 1,000 and from $199 for 3,000+. The ATO wants values in Australian dollars, so set AUD.

What CoinLedger publishes for Australian users

  • Form: an Australia ATO MyTax Report, plus a capital gains summary, income summary, audit trail and end-of-year positions.
  • Methods: FIFO, LIFO or HIFO, set in Tax Settings for all years or one tax year. FIFO is the default when your country has no country-specific method.
  • Free preview: import and preview gains before paying.

CoinLedger doesn’t publish AUD prices. Each purchase covers one tax year, and the Australian tax year runs 1 July to 30 June.

ATO rules the report has to follow

  • CGT events include selling crypto, gifting it, swapping one crypto for another, converting it to AUD or another currency, and buying goods or services with it.
  • Separate assets: each crypto asset is a separate CGT asset, and values must be converted into Australian dollars.
  • Losses: capital losses reduce capital gains, but a net capital loss can’t be deducted from other income.
  • Discount: Australian residents can cut a gain by 50% on assets held at least 12 months. Losses are subtracted first. Companies can’t use the discount.
  • Data matching: the ATO matches returns against data from crypto service providers.

When you preview the report, check that disposals held over 12 months are flagged separately and that every swap counts as a disposal.

Who it fits, based on published features and pricing

This is a reading of published features and prices, not a tested recommendation. CoinLedger wasn’t tested hands-on for this page.

  • Fits Australian investors with up to about 1,000 transactions a year who want a one-off payment per tax year and an ATO-labelled report.
  • Check first if you need AUD pricing, trade as a business (then the gains are ordinary income, not CGT), or need to catch up on several years.

Frequently asked questions

Does CoinLedger produce an ATO report?

Its tax report page lists an 'Australia ATO MyTax Report' among country-specific forms, along with a capital gains summary, income summary and audit trail. You enter the figures in the Capital gains or losses section of myTax.

Which calculation method does it use for Australia?

CoinLedger supports FIFO, LIFO and HIFO and says these are used in Australia. Unless you pick a method in Tax Settings, it defaults to FIFO for non-US countries. Ask a tax agent which method fits your records.

Does CoinLedger apply the 50% CGT discount?

CoinLedger's capital gains report separates short-term and long-term gains for relevant countries. The ATO allows a 50% discount for Australian residents on assets held at least 12 months, after losses are subtracted. Check that your report shows the split.

How much is CoinLedger in Australian dollars?

The pricing page lists USD only: $49 (100 transactions), $99 (1,000) and from $199 (3,000+) per tax year. Your card may add a currency conversion fee, so check the total at checkout.

Can I get a refund?

CoinLedger's refund policy allows 14 days, only for a software limitation that support verifies and only before any report is downloaded.
