Crypto Tax Software for Canada: CRA Rules and Prices Compared

We may earn a commission from some links. It doesn’t affect our rankings.

Short answer

Canadian crypto tax software needs to use the Adjusted Cost Base (ACB) method, value every trade in Canadian dollars and produce figures for Schedule 3. CoinLedger, Koinly and CoinTracker all say they support ACB and Schedule 3. Published entry prices: CoinLedger and Koinly $49 per tax year, CoinTracker $59 a year. Summ's Canada page lists $99 and $249 yearly plans covering all tax years.

What Canadian crypto tax software has to do

  • Use ACB: average the cost of each crypto in Canadian dollars.
  • Treat swaps, spending and transfers of ownership as dispositions, valued in CAD at the time.
  • Produce Schedule 3 figures: crypto proceeds on line 15200 and the gain or loss on line 15301.
  • Flag superficial losses, where a rebuy within 30 days either side means the loss can’t be claimed.
  • Separate income such as staking or mining rewards, and business trading, which is reported differently (Guide T4002).

Free options in Canada

Checked 26 Oct 2026 on coinledger.io/pricing, koinly.io/pricing and cointracker.io/pricing.

None of the three publishes a free plan that downloads a filing-ready report. Each one’s free tier is a preview:

Tool What’s free What you pay for
CoinLedger Tracking and a gains preview The report download, from USD 49 per tax year
Koinly Import and a full gains preview for up to 10,000 transactions The report, from USD 49 per tax year
CoinTracker Portfolio tracking and a tax summary preview Tax forms, from USD 59 a year (covers past years)

The free preview is still useful. Import your full history, set CAD and the adjusted cost base (ACB) method, and check your transaction count before you pay.

The no-cost route: with a few trades, you can work out the adjusted cost base per coin yourself in a spreadsheet, using your exchanges’ CAD statements. Report the gains on Schedule 3. Each swap is a disposition, so this gets slow quickly as trades grow.

Who each fits, based on published features and pricing

This is a reading of published features and prices, not a tested recommendation. None of these tools was tested hands-on for this page.

  • CoinLedger: fits one-year filers with up to about 1,000 transactions who want a one-time payment and a generated Schedule 3. See CoinLedger Canada.
  • Koinly: fits people who want to preview up to 10,000 transactions free, pay once per year, or pay in crypto.
  • CoinTracker: fits people catching up on several years, since a yearly plan covers past years’ reports.
  • Summ: fits multi-year filers whose combined history stays within a tier, with all years under one subscription.

Whichever you try, import your full history in the free tier, set CAD and ACB, and check the transaction count before paying.

Frequently asked questions

Which crypto tax software is best in Canada?

This page doesn't rank them, because none was tested hands-on. It sets out published prices and CRA-related features so you can match them to your transaction count, the years you need and how you want to pay.

What does the CRA require?

For capital disposals, report proceeds and the gain or loss in Canadian dollars on Schedule 3 (lines 15200 and 15301). Half of a capital gain is taxable. Crypto-to-crypto swaps are dispositions.

Which tools support ACB?

CoinLedger's help centre lists ACB for Canada. CoinTracker's lists ACB as required by the CRA, reported on Schedule 3. Koinly's pricing page lists ACB among its methods. Summ's Canada page discusses ACB in its FAQ.

Are prices in Canadian dollars?

CoinLedger, Koinly and CoinTracker list USD. Summ's Canada page shows $99 and $249 without a currency label. Check the total at checkout.

Which is cheaper for catching up several years?

CoinTracker and Summ sell yearly plans that cover past years' reports. CoinLedger and Koinly sell each tax year separately.

How do superficial losses affect software?

The CRA denies a loss if you or a connected person (such as a spouse) rebuy identical property within 30 days before or after the sale and still hold it 30 days later. The denied loss is usually added to the new property's ACB. Check how your preview treats quick rebuys.
