Systeme.io is often pitched as a free funnel builder. For a USD 5, 10 or 20 download the useful question is different: what do you keep after Stripe, and when does the Free plan’s sales cap force an upgrade? This page answers that from published pricing. It is not a hands-on checkout test, and it is not tax advice.

Plans that matter for low-ticket sales

Plan Price Contacts Sales funnels Platform fee
Free USD 0 2,000 3 0% (lifetime sales revenue capped at USD 10,000)
Startup USD 17 a month 5,000 10 0%
Webinar USD 47 a month 10,000 50 0%
Unlimited USD 97 a month Unlimited Unlimited 0%

Every plan includes unlimited email sends and 0% transaction fees. You still pay Stripe, PayPal or another listed gateway.

What you keep on one US card sale

Assumptions: one-time sale, Stripe US 2.9% + USD 0.30, Systeme.io 0%, buyer-side tax not modelled.

Product price Keep on Systeme.io Gumroad direct (for contrast) Payhip Free (for contrast)
USD 5 USD 4.55 USD 4.00 USD 4.30
USD 10 USD 9.41 USD 8.50 USD 8.91
USD 20 USD 19.12 USD 17.50 USD 18.12

On per-sale maths alone, Systeme.io keeps more than Gumroad or Payhip Free because there is no platform percentage. The trade-off is tax and MoR: Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy collect and remit covered taxes as merchant of record; on Systeme.io that stays with you and your gateway.

Free plan cap at low ticket

At USD 10 a sale, USD 10,000 in lifetime sales is about 1,000 sales. At USD 5 it is about 2,000 sales. Taxes collected for remittance and payment-gateway fees do not count toward the Free plan’s sales-revenue limit per the terms and help article. After the cap you have a short window to move to Startup (USD 17 a month) or higher to keep taking payments.

Funnel shape for a USD 5–20 download

  1. Create the product and upload the file.
  2. Build a short funnel: opt-in or straight sales page, then order form.
  3. Connect Stripe (or PayPal / Razorpay).
  4. Add an order bump or 1-click upsell if you have a second template or checklist.
  5. Deliver the file on the thank-you page and by email automation.

Done-for-you Systeme.io setup

If you want the sales page, funnel shell, checkout and one automation configured on your account without building it yourself, see our done-for-you packages. Starter is USD 149; full build is USD 449. Delivery is async setup inside your account (or a shared collaborator seat) with a written acceptance checklist — no live calls, Loom walkthroughs or training sessions.

Who it fits, from published pricing

This is a reading of the pricing page and terms, not a hands-on test.

  • It fits solo sellers of ebooks, templates or presets who want 0% platform fee, a free start, and email plus funnels in one tool.
  • It fits less well if you need a marketplace audience, full merchant-of-record tax handling, or you will blow past USD 10,000 in sales before you are ready to pay Startup.

Frequently asked questions

Does Systeme.io take a cut of a USD 5 or USD 20 sale?

No. Systeme.io lists 0% transaction fees on Free, Startup, Webinar and Unlimited. Your payment gateway still charges its own fee. Stripe's published US rate for standard domestic cards is 2.9% + USD 0.30 (checked 29 Oct 2026).

What is the Free plan sales limit?

Systeme.io's terms (Art. 5a) and plan-moderation help article state a lifetime sales-revenue limit of USD 10,000 on Free. Amounts that do not count toward that limit include taxes collected and payment-gateway fees; once you hit the cap, you have a short window to upgrade to keep accepting payments.

How much do I keep on a USD 10 sale?

With Stripe US at 2.9% + USD 0.30 and a 0% Systeme.io fee, you keep about USD 9.41 of a USD 10 product price on a one-time domestic card sale. Monthly plan cost is separate: USD 0 on Free until the sales cap, then Startup at USD 17 a month.

How does that compare with Gumroad or Payhip?

On the same USD 10 US card sale, published fees leave about USD 8.50 on Gumroad direct, USD 8.91 on Payhip Free and USD 9.41 on Systeme.io before monthly plans. Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy also act as merchants of record for tax; Systeme.io leaves tax setup to you and your gateway.

Can I add an order bump on a USD 5 product?

1-click upsells and order bumps are listed in Systeme.io's plan comparison on every plan, so you can offer a second download at checkout or right after purchase. Confirm file delivery in the help centre for your funnel type.

Does Systeme.io handle VAT for me?

Systeme.io is not a merchant of record on its pricing page. You (and Stripe, PayPal or another gateway) handle tax collection settings. This page is general information, not tax advice.

Is this a hands-on test?

No. tested is false. Figures apply published fee formulas to one-time US domestic card sales. Plan limits come from systeme.io/pricing, the terms and the plan-moderation help article (checked 29 Oct 2026).
